Pastor Jonathan Joel Griffey was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia, by his mother, Overseer Katherine Griffey, and was educated in the DeKalb County School System.
He grew up inside St. Katherine's Church of God in Christ, involved from an early age in nearly every auxiliary the church had — from the Sunbeam Choir to the Kitchen Ministry — always looking for a way to help. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior as a young child, and at age 13 he felt what he describes as the real power and anointing of God, receiving the Holy Spirit and delivering his first sermon that same year.
In the years that followed, he served St. Katherine's in nearly every role available to him: Youth Minister and leader of the Youth Ministry, a mediator for the church's young people, Psalmist, Minister of Music, Choir Director, and Events Coordinator.
On October 10, 2021, he was ordained by his mother and the church's Founder, the late Overseer Katherine C. Griffey, and appointed Assistant Pastor. He carried that role alongside a full-time job at Pruitt Healthcare and caring for his mother until her passing on May 27, 2025 — after which he stepped in as the lead servant of the church and its ministerial staff.
On February 28, 2026, with God's blessing and the congregation's support, Jonathan Joel Griffey was installed as Pastor of St. Katherine's Church of God in Christ, Inc.
Wherever he goes, Pastor Griffey lets his light shine — never getting comfortable in his walk with God, because each new day brings new mercies and grace for all who seek to do His will.
