She answered a call, and a church was born.
Missionary Katherine Cash Griffey gave fifty-seven years to the ministry — as pastor, minister, nurse, and spiritual counselor — and never once received a salary. Before the pulpit there was the bedside: trained at the Duval School of Nursing, she served as a Licensed Practical Nurse for thirty-seven years, and was a graduate of the Zeta Van Gibson School of Theological Studies.
She was a widow, mother to her sons Joel and Jonathan, grandmother to Brittani, and godmother to many. The story of St. Katherine’s cannot be told apart from hers.

The Prayer Band Begins
She became Evangelist Griffey and formed a Prayer Band in her home on Daniel Street in Jacksonville, Florida — the small circle of faith from which St. Katherine’s would one day grow.
Return to Atlanta
She moved back to Atlanta, Georgia, carrying the Prayer Band with her and continuing the ministry she had begun.
On the Air
Her radio broadcast, “Have a Little Talk with Jesus,” began on WYZE 1480 AM — a voice of encouragement that would reach listeners for forty-five years.

St. Katherine’s is Founded
Missionary Griffey mortgaged her home and, with funds raised by the Prayer Band, paid cash for the congregation’s first church home on Ormewood Avenue. The Prayer Band was officially incorporated as Saint Katherine’s Church of God in Christ, Inc.
Hour of Miracles
She launched a television ministry, “Hour of Miracles,” carrying the Gospel into homes across the region. It aired for twenty-three years.
Missionary Griffey
She changed her title from Evangelist to Missionary — the word she felt best described her life’s mission: teaching the Word, spreading the Gospel, and caring for God’s people.
A Partner in Mission
She began a partnership with Heifer International. Over the next decade, she and her church would give more than $30,000 to provide food, clean water, livestock, and education to families around the world.
Just a Little Talk with Jesus
She began streaming inspirational segments on Facebook — still reaching, still teaching, faithful to the call in a new era.

On May 27, 2025, Missionary Katherine Cash Griffey earned her heavenly wings — fifty-seven years in ministry, ninety-one years of life, and never once a salary taken. The foundation she laid remains forever.
In honor of her 80th birthday, Missionary Griffey received Congressional Recognition, requested by Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. Though she is no longer with us, her spiritual presence and the foundation she laid remain forever in our hearts.
Her ministry continues today through her son and successor, Pastor Jonathan Griffey.
